Collision sends 9 to the hospital

Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision near the entrance to Belair Hotel that injured eight men and one woman late yesterday afternoon, causing even more than the usual traffic congestion leaving Philipsburg due to the temporary road closure. A grey Kia Rio with four passengers was driving towards the hotel and overtaking another vehicle when it hit an oncoming white Suzuki minivan with five passengers. The front ends of both cars were completely totalled. Three people had to be cut out from the Kia. The Kia driver’s feet were trapped underneath the dashboard. The Kia’s front seat passenger (seen here lying on a stretcher) is reportedly in critical condition. The ambulance was seen making a couple of trips back and forth to St. Maarten Medical Center. (TDH)
