GREAT BAY- For the 30 children, the 2013 Summer Camp experience will be a memorable one after getting a surprise visit by Asha Mandela, the lady with the longest natural hair in the world, at 21 feet and weighing 40 pounds.
Reading about someone from the Caribbean that was acknowledged by the Guinness Book of Records is one thing, but getting up close and personal is a significant achievement. Mandela who was born in the twin island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago is now a resident of the United States.
This impromptu and yet informative visit took place at the annual Summer Camp that was organized by Belair Community Center, on the premises Tuesday afternoon. Mandela, baring her usually bright smile combined by her charismatic appearance opened her hair and posed with the lucky kids who could hardly wait to get as close as possible.
The trip to St Maarten by Mandela which was organized by the Freedom Fighters Foundation who organized a series of ‘Edification’ programs during her stay here. Before departing, the foundation has plans for Mandela to pay visits to specific spots on the island.
